Stories and highlights
There's always something to celebrate at our school! From exciting events to proud moments and everyday wins, here are some of our highlights.
DanceSport Confidence- Year 5 and 6 program
The “My Best Self” program provides children with the essential experience of developing a strong foundation of well-being and emotional health, positive social connection using verbal and non-verbal communication, and appraising feelings related to facing challenges,
change, and others’ perspectives.
The key themes of respectful relationships, courage and resilience are embedded throughout the program and can be adapted to a broad range of developmental levels and learning styles. Skills of reflection, gratitude, acceptance and tolerance, goal-setting and resilience are implicitly woven into the program.
Students undertake weekly tutorials with a professional instructor over 10 to 15 weeks. They learn wellbeing concepts, along with a suite of partner dances, including the Cha Cha Cha, Tango, Salsa and Jive. The program culminates in an amazing inter-school competition gala.
Drama Performance Opportunities
One of extra curricular opportunities for Years 3-6 is Drama Club run by our talented and dedicated staff. Each year the Drama Club performs for our school community. This year our talented drama and choir (Glee Club) groups brought the enchanting world of Matilda Junior the Musical to life on our stage in two magical performances this week. Their hard work and dedication truly shone through in every performance, captivating audiences and leaving us all with hearts full of joy and inspiration.
Band Performance Opportunities
Collaroy Plateau Public School has a very successful Band program run by a sub-committee of our schools P&C. Currently there are four bands. Children in Year 3 have the opportunity to join the Training Band and graduate to the Concert, Performance Band and Jazz Band. Year 2 children have the opportunity to join the New Recruits in Term 4 as an introduction to the band program. Practices and tutorials are held each week, either before and/or after school and sometimes at lunchtime. The bands perform at school events and assemblies, festivals and competitions throughout the year, as well at community events such as The War Vets for their Anzac Day ceremony. Our Band P&C committee organise events for the students to attend throughout the year to provide extra practise and performance opportunities such as Band Workshops, The Band bash and Showcase Nights.
Dance Performance Opportunities
At Collaroy Plateau Public School we are proud to have an inclusive Performance Dance Programme. This means that all students from Years 3 - 6 are welcome to join our extra-curricular programme, without auditioning, and become part of our hugely successful dance community.
Throughout the year our 5 groups, all taught by professional dance teachers, perform at two Eisteddfods, I'd Rather Be Dancing at Brigidine College and The City of Sydney Eisteddfod, held at The Sydney Opera House. The groups also perform for the school throughout the year, at events such as Open Day.
Open Day
Each year we celebrate Public Education Week and hold an Open Day for our community. This day is a showcase of of the amazing extra-curricular opportunities on offer at our school, with grade, choir, band and dance performances. Open classrooms are a highlight where students share their learning with their families and there is a book fair in the library.
